Who is?

Simon Hampson

Tell us a bit about you?
My name is Simon Hampson. I am the chairman of Hindsford Junior FC and I have been involved with Hindsford Junior FC since I was 14 under the late Brian Johnson who was a massive inspiration to myself and team mates of that era. I progressed to playing for Hindsford AFC at 18, captaining the 1st team in the Manchester League.

At the age of 30 I suffered an injury and turned to management, playing a key role in the success of Hindsford AFC over 6 years with Barry Massey and Neil Critchley. I had an eye for spotting talent which led to bringing key players together, starting a little bit of history down Squires Lane.

Speaking with Neil we realised that Hindsford Junior FC was struggling to attract young players, meaning fewer players were coming through to the senior team. I set up an U16’s team from local kids I saw playing with jumpers for goalposts on the local playing fields and the juniors grew from there.

The year after I met Anthony Filipek from Elite Coaching Academy who had football schools in Swinton and Hindley. We came up with the idea to work together to provide local children with expert, fun football coaching from an early age. The benefit to Hindsford Junior FC from this partnership with Elite Coaching Academy is that children can progress to playing League football at U7 age knowing they will get the same attitude to development at Hindsford Junior FC. Hopefully many of our junior players will enjoy playing the sport and progress to playing for Hindsford AFC, semi-pro, or who knows? The sky is the limit!

What is your biggest accomplishment in this club?
Setting up the partnership with Anthony and bringing John Thomson to Hindsford Junior FC, both of whom complement each other brilliantly. I also believe bringing Barry Massey to Hindsford AFC was another accomplishment.

What would be your ultimate achievement?
My aim is to have all future Hindsford Junior FC players being given the opportunity to learn and develop in the right way, from Elite Coaching Academy right through.

Where do you draw your inspiration from?
My parents, my wife Lisa who has been my rock and friend throughout, my children Ruby, Tommy and Poppy. Paul Devlin, Chairman of Hindsford AFC and my best friend Fash.

Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
"THERE IS NO SECRET TO SUCCESS" it is a result of good preparation, hard work and learning from your mistakes.
